In this unit learners will gain an understanding of the principles and stages involved in systems analysis and the associated documentation involved in both the analysis and design stages. One key stage involves the determination of the requirements and the writing of the requirements specification. Clear statements and understanding of the requirements are essential to ensuring that an appropriate solution is designed. In addition it will provide the basis for later testing and evaluation.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit a learner should:
1 Understand the principles of systems analysis and design
2 Be able to investigate, analyse and document requirements
3 Be able to create a system design
4 Be able to design a test plan.
Lesson One Leaner will be directed to where all the resources will be kept on Wikispace. A discussion will take place into defining a what a system is. Learners will listen to a presentation regarding Systems analysis, development life cycles Models, development methodologies and benefits of systems analysis.
Lesson Two Learners will listen to a presentation regarding SSADM and the six different stages. Discuss the first stage “Project initiation and feasibility”, key drivers.
Lesson Three -HAND IN ASSIGNMENT ONE
During this lesson you will be working on Assignment one. Assignment one should be completed by the end of the lesson ready for first marking.
Lesson Four - HAND OUR ASSIGNMENT TWO Learners will listen and observe a presentation on the second stage “Investigation and analysis” & “Constraints” Learner will research into the various investigation techniques. Learners will discuss what is requirements specification. Work on Assignment two complete task 1 and task 2a
This is an example of a previous students attempt of creating the questionnaires etc. This student missed out on an important interview with the MD.

Lesson Five -Six Work on Assignment 2 completing all tasks Work on Assignment 1 ready to hand in for second and final marking
Lesson Seven Learners will listen and observe a presentation on the second stage “Design”. Learners will discuss input specification, output specification and process descriptors. Learners will individually create a flow chart and some pseudo code.
Lesson Eight Learners will listen and observe a presentation on “data flow diagrams”. Learners will take part in an interactive activity focusing on DFDs. Learners will individually create a data flow diagram Learners will listen and observe a presentation on “Entity Relationship Diagrams” Learners will individually create a Entity Relationship Diagram.
Lesson Ten - Twelve EXTRA HELP Today we will be researching into entity relationship diagrams. We will be using a sport shop scenario, EROS Sports, to extract tables and fields from. This exercise will require you to create an ERD, a data dictionary and finally, you will be required to implement your design in MS Access. Once the table structure is in place, you will then develop the forms needed for data entry.
