Unit 10 - Communication Technologies ---- Assessor Eric Davies
This unit deals with the many types of communication technology used in business and in home Internet access. We examine network communications, legacy systems and modern 3G and 4G mobile systems looking in depth at how these technologies work and how the modern business world is harnessing communications technology to enhance day-to-day operations.

We also look at how modern technology changes business practice using the book industry as an example. Publishing houses and distributors have had to make radical changes to their business model to address the issues of falling sales due to new ways of distributing books online being taken up by readers... ie Amazon Kindle, E-book Readers etc. Communications has become a major part of this new approach to publishing and distribution.

Assessment

The module is assessed by way of two assignments. Assignment 1 looks at a variety of communication types and a host of devices which enable these varied communications. We also examine transmission methods to understand how these technologies work.

The second assignment looks specifically at Modern Networking and features a practical element which requires learners to establish wired and wireless connections in order to then exchange data between devices.
